  1. Click the target date and time field and pick the moment you're counting down to — a launch, a deadline, a birthday, New Year's Eve.
  2. The countdown starts immediately and refreshes once every second, no button to press.
  3. Read the four boxes as days, hours, minutes and seconds still remaining.
  4. Press Reset to clear the field and choose a different target date.

Frequently asked questions

Which time zone does the countdown use?

It uses your device's local time zone. The date and time you pick are interpreted exactly as your computer or phone would display them, and the countdown compares that moment against your device clock. If you're counting down to an event in another time zone, convert the start time to your own local time first, then enter that.

What happens when the countdown reaches zero?

The four counters are replaced by a message saying the moment has already passed. The tool intentionally stops at zero rather than counting upwards, so there's no ambiguity about whether the number on screen is time remaining or time elapsed. To count down to something else, press Reset and pick a new target.

Do I have to keep the tab open for it to keep counting?

The display only updates while the page is open, but nothing is lost if you close it. The countdown is calculated fresh from your device clock each second rather than accumulated from a running total, so reopening the page with the same target shows the correct remaining time, even after the tab was closed or the device was asleep.

Can I count down to a date that's years away?

Yes. The remaining time is shown as a plain number of days plus the leftover hours, minutes and seconds, so a target three years out simply shows a day count of over a thousand. There's no upper limit and no rollover into months or years, which keeps the number unambiguous — calendar months differ in length.

Does this tool store or upload my data?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser. The target date you choose stays on your device, is never sent to a server, and isn't saved anywhere after you close the page.
