Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. PDF Text Extractor reads and extracts text entirely in your browser — your file is never sent anywhere.

Does this tool perform OCR on scanned PDFs?

No. It only extracts text that's already embedded and selectable in the PDF, such as text from a Word-exported or typed document. Scanned image-only PDFs have no embedded text, so this tool will report that no text was found — it does not recognize text in images.

Why does it say no text was found in my PDF?

This usually means the PDF is made of scanned page images rather than real text, so there's nothing to extract. Try the Image to Text tool, which uses OCR to read text from images.

Does this work with password-protected PDFs?

Password-protected PDFs are not currently supported.

How is the text from multiple pages organized?

Each page's text is extracted separately and joined together with clear spacing between pages, so you can still tell where one page ends and the next begins.
