Frequently asked questions
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser using WebAssembly — your HEIC file is never sent to a server.
Why don't I see a preview of my original photo before converting?
Browsers can't natively display HEIC images — that's exactly why this tool exists. Once you click Convert, the resulting JPG is shown as a preview.
Does converting reduce photo quality?
There is some JPEG compression involved, since JPG doesn't support HEIC's exact encoding, but the output quality is kept high.
Does this also work for HEIF files, or just HEIC?
Both .heic and .heif files are accepted — they're closely related container formats.
Is there a file size limit?
There's no hard limit, but very large or high-resolution photos may take longer to process since everything runs in your browser. Some browsers may also have less mature HEIC decoding support than others.
