Frequently asked questions

Why can't I convert cups directly to grams?

Because it depends on the ingredient. A cup of flour weighs about 120g, a cup of granulated sugar about 200g, and a cup of butter about 227g — the same volume, three very different weights. To avoid giving you a wrong number dressed up as a precise one, this tool only converts within volume units (cups, tbsp, tsp, mL, L, fl oz) or within weight units (g, kg, oz, lb), never between the two.

What's the difference between a US cup and a metric cup?

This tool uses the US customary cup (236.588 mL), the standard in most American recipes. Some countries use a metric cup of exactly 250 mL instead — if your recipe specifies a metric cup, adjust accordingly, since it's about 5.6% larger than a US cup.

How many teaspoons are in a tablespoon?

3 teaspoons make 1 tablespoon, and 16 tablespoons make 1 cup (48 teaspoons in total) — standard ratios used throughout this converter.

How accurate are these conversions?

Conversions use standard, widely published US customary and metric baking ratios (e.g. 1 cup = 236.588 mL, 1 lb = 453.592 g), computed with full floating-point precision and rounded only for display. They're accurate for volume-to-volume and weight-to-weight conversions; they're not ingredient-specific density conversions.

Does this tool store or upload my data?

No. All calculations happen locally in your browser. The value you enter is never sent to a server or saved anywhere.
