Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between BMR and TDEE?

BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is the number of calories your body burns at complete rest just to keep basic functions running. TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) is BMR multiplied by an activity factor, giving your estimated total calories burned in a day including movement and exercise.

How is BMR calculated here?

This tool uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation: for men, BMR = 10×weight(kg) + 6.25×height(cm) − 5×age + 5; for women, BMR = 10×weight(kg) + 6.25×height(cm) − 5×age − 161. It's widely considered more accurate than the older Harris-Benedict formula.

Is this medical advice?

No. This calculator provides a general estimate for informational purposes only, not medical or nutritional advice. It doesn't account for individual metabolic variation, medical conditions, or medications. Consult a doctor or registered dietitian before making significant dietary changes.

Which activity level should I choose?

Sedentary means little or no exercise; Light is light exercise 1–3 days a week; Moderate is moderate exercise 3–5 days a week; Heavy is hard exercise 6–7 days a week; Athlete is very intense training or a physically demanding job. Choose the one closest to your typical week, not your best week.

Does this tool store or upload my data?

No. All calculations happen locally in your browser. Your age, height, weight, and activity level are never sent to a server or saved anywhere.
